Das Saint Louis Art Museum konnte 2021 die außergewöhnliche Sammlung von Ted L. Simmons und Maryanne Ellison Simmons erwerben. Der attraktiv bebilderte Katalog stellt die wichtigsten Werke dieser Sammlung vor, von den 1960er-Jahren bis in die Gegenwart. ‚Catching the Moment‘ präsentiert eine Auswahl von 104 Werken aus der umfangreichen Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst, die in Jahrzehnten vom Sammlerehepaar Simmons aus St. Louis zusammengetragen wurde. Die Druckgrafiken, Zeichnungen und Fotografien, aber auch Skulpturen sowie ein Gemälde stammen vornehmlich von US-amerikanischen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern.

Die Herausgeberin ǀ Elizabeth Wyckoff
Elizabeth Wyckoff hat sich durch ihre Tätigkeiten am Davis Museum and Cultural Center, am Wellesley College, an der New York Public Library und am Metropolitan Museum of Art einen Namen gemacht. Seit 2010 ist sie Kuratorin für Druckgrafik, Zeichnung und Fotografie am Saint Louis Art Museum.
Amerikanische Kunst der letzten 60 Jahre
Das Interesse für die Kunst der Gegenwart zeugt vom Engagement für soziale, politische und künstlerische Themen der eigenen Zeit, die sowohl die Sammler wie auch die Künstler prägte. Die Sammlung umfasst Werke von Künstler*innen wie Mike Bidlo, Enrique Chagoya, Bruce Conner, Damon Davis, Tony Fitzpatrick, Helen Frankenthaler, Jane Hammond, Tom Huck, Peter Hujar, Jasper Johns, Bruce Nauman, Liliana Porter, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Kiki Smith, Paul Thek, Kara Walker, H.
